Motion Studio has custom controls for recording
keyframes. You must use the Motion Studio record functions to successfully
record Motion Studio skeleton keyframes. See more information about the Shuttle
and the Dope Sheet.
When you use the Motion Studio recording controls, keyframes
are recorded for Joint position, Joint flex,
and Bone twist. These keyframes can be edited using
the Scene Editor (SE) or Key Frame Editor
(KFE) controls in trueSpace.
You should always use the Motion Studio recording controls for recording poses or skeleton animations.
When you record a frame for a skeleton in Motion Studio, keyframes are recorded for all joints in that skeleton. If you want local control for a set of joints, those joints should probably be in a subskeleton.
When you transform (move or rotate) a skeleton group object, Motion Studio transfers these changes to the skeleton joints. This feature prevents 'sliding' or 'skidding' in your animations and allows a consistent recording system (remember, Motion Studio only records joint and bone changes). You can turn this feature on or off with the Auto Transform Joints option in the main menu.
There are special cases when it is desirable to transform a skeleton group and record those keyframes. In particular, it is possible to move or rotate an entire animation sequence by recording keyframes for the master skeleton group itself. To do this keyframing, you must first disable Auto Transform Joints. Then you can select the skeleton object and transform it with the move or rotate tools in trueSpace. Remember that there are special rules for selecting a skeleton group: you must either right-click it in the scene list and choose the Select command, or disable the Auto Drill-Down Joint option in the menu. Also, remember that you will need to use the trueSpace record button to record keyframes for the skeleton group.
